What types of tile do you install?

What is the best tile for a shower floor vs. shower walls?

For shower floors, we recommend smaller tiles (2×2, 3×3 mosaic, or hex) because more grout lines provide better traction and the tiles can more easily follow the floor’s slope to the drain. Matte or textured porcelain is the best choice for safety. For shower walls, large-format porcelain or stone (12×24 or 24×48) creates a clean, modern look with fewer grout lines to maintain. We always install proper waterproofing membrane behind wet-area tile.

How long does tile installation take for a bathroom?

A standard bathroom tile job — shower surround, floor, and niche — typically takes 3–5 days: one day for waterproofing and prep, 1–2 days for setting tile, and 1 day for grouting and caulking. The tile then needs 24–48 hours to fully cure before the shower can be used. We include all prep and cleanup in our quoted scope.

Can you match existing tile for a repair?

Matching existing tile can be challenging if the original tile has been discontinued. We will try to source a match through our supplier network. In cases where an exact match is not possible, we can often create a design solution — such as a contrasting accent border or full tile replacement — that looks intentional. Bring us a photo and a sample tile and we will tell you honestly what is achievable.

Do large-format tiles (24×24 or bigger) require special installation?

Yes. Large-format tiles require a very flat substrate — any variation greater than 1/8 inch over 10 feet must be corrected before installation to prevent lippage (one tile edge sitting higher than its neighbor). We use a back-buttering technique, medium-bed mortar, and tile leveling clips to ensure large tiles sit perfectly flat. This extra care takes more time but results in a professional finish that lasts.

What grout should I use, and how do I maintain it?

For most applications, we recommend unsanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch and sanded grout for wider joints. Epoxy grout is the most stain-resistant and durable option — ideal for kitchen backsplashes and bathroom floors. For cement-based grout, we recommend sealing it annually in wet areas. We provide aftercare instructions for every tile project so you can protect your investment.
